This incredibly rare and mind-bending selection of American exploitation movie posters originated from Nicolas Winding Refn’s purchase of hundreds of tatty one sheet posters from author Jimmy McDonough (‘Ghastly One: The Sex-Gore Netherworld of Filmmaker Andy Milligan’ and ‘Big Bosoms and Square Jaws: The Biography of Russ Meyer, King of the Sex Film’) who had personally trawled through the closed and abandoned cinemas of Times Square on a fevered scavenger hunt to grab exploitation promo art from walls, broken glass frames and dusty basements.Thank god he did!

The book works on many levels. It is without doubt the most expansive and beautifully crafted poster book i have ever seen.It works as a jumping off point for the joint obsessions of both Alan and Nicolas and the love of cult movies they have in common. These beautifully restored poster images (which must have taken days of digital correction) would be enough to warrant such a price tag but what completes this collection is FrightFest curator and cult movie expert Alan Jones’ accompanying text.As is expected, Alan gives us fascinating insight into the rarest of the films contained within by delving into their murky distribution histories and dredging up facts that have not been seen in print before.I am personally obsessed with the promotional art (and the excesses) of ’70s Exploitation cinema. My favourite posters were the hand drawn promo ads, especially the typo heavy Blaxploiter FOX(Y) STYLE ! BUY THIS BOOK!!
