In a backwoods community consumed by a cult built around a hole in the ground, troubled teenager Ada (Lauren Ashley Carter) is fearful of what may be in store for her when a local craftsman (Deadwood’s Sean Bridgers) makes a pottery jug bearing her face – a sure sign she is about to be sacrificed to ‘the pit.’ Positioned somewhere between Winter’s Bone and The Wicker Man, writer-director Chad Crawford Kinkle’s astonishing feature debut creates an utterly convincing, supremely terrifying world all its own, in which ritual sacrifice is not just a way of life, but a means of survival.
