When hundreds of videotapes showing torture, murder and dismemberment are found in an abandoned house, they reveal a serial killer’s decade-long reign of terror and become the most disturbing collection of evidence homicide detectives have ever seen.

Had The Poughkeepsie Tapes had a longer theatrical run and/or had been released on Home Entertainment formats it would have kick started the VHS/Found footage sub-genre made very popular by the The Blair Witch Project and more recently V/H/S and V/H/S/2.Director John Erick Dowdle’s subsequent horror output Quarantine (2008) and Devil (2010) were received well and performed adequately at the box office. For now we will mark The Poughkeepsie Tapes as officially M.I.A.
